Tools that make remote teams work

Las herramientas que hacen posible el trabajo remoto y por qué la cultura importa más que el software.

Lectura

Working with people in different cities or even different countries was rare twenty years ago. Today, it is normal in tech companies. But this only works because of a small set of tools that have become standard. Slack and Microsoft Teams are the modern equivalent of the office corridor. You can ask a quick question, share a meme, or have a serious discussion in a dedicated channel. The key is to use threads, so that conversations stay organised. Video meetings happen on Zoom or Google Meet. They are essential for stand-ups, design reviews and one-to-ones with your manager. A good camera and a decent microphone make a huge difference. For documentation, many teams use Notion or Confluence. Writing things down may feel slow, but it saves hours of repeated explanations later. Code lives on GitHub or GitLab, where engineers review each other's work before it is merged. This process catches a lot of bugs early. None of these tools, on their own, make a team successful. What really matters is how people use them: with clarity, with respect for each other's time, and with a culture of writing things down.
