Átomo 81

Condicionales mixtos (2do + 3ro)

"Mix 3rd conditional (unreal past) in the 'if' with 2nd conditional (unreal present) in the result, or vice versa, depending on when the consequence falls."

Caso 1 (pasado -> presente): 'If I had studied harder, I would have a better job now' (no estudié en el pasado, por eso no tengo buen trabajo ahora). Caso 2 (presente -> pasado): 'If I were richer, I would have bought it' (como no soy rico ahora, no lo compre en su momento).

Ejemplos

If I had studied harder, I would have a better job now.

💡 Pasado irreal -> presente irreal.

If I were richer, I would have bought that flat in Murcia.

💡 Presente irreal -> pasado irreal.

If we hadn't migrated the database, the app would still be slow.

If I weren't so introverted, I would have asked Elena more questions.

If she had passed Trinity ISE II last year, she would be preparing C1 now.

If I were a better photographer, I would have sold those photos.

Sí fuera mejor fotografo, habria vendido esas fotos.

If we had set up monitoring earlier, we wouldn't be debugging this now.

Estado presente -> resultado pasadoIf + past simple/were, would have + V-ed
If I were braver, I would have spoken upIf she didn't hate Java, she would have taken that job
3er condicional puro (todo pasado)If + had + V-ed, would have + V-ed

If I were rich, I would travel more

Trampas hispanohablantes

If I would have studied, I would have a better job.If I had studied, I would have a better job.

En la clausula 'if' NUNCA va 'would have'. Va 'had + participio'.

If I had studied harder, I would had a better job now.If I had studied harder, I would have a better job now.

Resultado en presente -> 'would + infinitivo' (have), no 'would had'.

If I were richer, I would buy that flat last year.If I were richer, I would have bought that flat last year.

El resultado se refiere al pasado ('last year') -> 'would have + participio'.

If I was you, I would have called him.If I were you, I would have called him.

If we hadn't migrated, the app will still be slow.If we hadn't migrated, the app would still be slow.

Usa 'would'.
