Inversion tras adverbios negativos

La regla

Cuando un adverbio negativo o restrictivo va al inicio (never, rarely, hardly, not only, under no circumstances, little), invierte sujeto y auxiliar como en una pregunta.

"When a negative or restrictive adverbial starts the clause (never, rarely, hardly, not only, under no circumstances, little), invert subject and auxiliary as in a question."

Sí la frase normal es 'I have never seen such a bug', al mover 'never' al inicio fuerzas la inversion: 'Never have I seen such a bug'. Lo mismo con 'rarely', 'seldom', 'hardly... when', 'no sooner... than', 'not only... but also', 'under no circumstances', 'on no account', 'little' (en sentido de 'poco/nada'). En presente y pasado simple sin auxiliar, debes anadir 'do/does/did': 'Rarely DOES she complain'.

Ejemplos

Never have I seen such a clean codebase.

Nunca he visto un código tan limpio.

Rarely does she complain about the workload.

💡 Presente simple sin auxiliar -> anade 'does'.

Not only did the deploy fail, but it also corrupted the database.

Hardly had I arrived at the office when the alert went off.

Under no circumstances should you push directly to main.

Bajo ninguna circunstancia debes hacer push directo a main.

Little did I know that the Trinity exam would be so demanding.

💡 'Little did I know' = expresion fija para 'no tenia ni idea'.

No sooner had we fixed the bug than another one appeared.

Seldom do interns get such responsibility on day one.

Trampas hispanohablantes

Never I have seen such a bug.Never have I seen such a bug.

Rarely she complains.Rarely does she complain.

En presente simple sin auxiliar, debes insertar 'do/does'. La inversion exige un auxiliar.

He said that never he had seen such a thing. He said that he had never seen such a thing.

En subordinadas (tras 'that') NO hay inversion. El orden vuelve a ser normal.

Not only he coded it but also he tested it.Not only did he code it, but he also tested it.

'Not only' al inicio dispara inversion en la primera parte. La segunda mantiene orden normal.

Hardly I had arrived when the alarm went off.Hardly had I arrived when the alarm went off.

Tras 'hardly' al inicio, invierte auxiliar (had) y sujeto (I).
