A young Spanish startup called LearnAi has raised 20 million euros to develop an AI tutor for language learners. The company, based in Madrid and founded only two years ago, says the platform will help users practise speaking with a virtual conversation partner. The funding round was led by a German investment firm, with participation from several Spanish business angels. According to the company, the money will be used to hire more engineers and to expand the product to new markets in Latin America. The AI tutor is currently available for English learners and supports about 50 conversation topics, from job interviews to ordering food in a restaurant. The team plans to add support for French and Portuguese later this year. Independent education experts have welcomed the news, but with some caution. 'AI tutors are very useful for daily practice,' said Dr. Carmen Lopez of the University of Salamanca, 'but they cannot replace a human teacher, especially for advanced learners.' The CEO of LearnAi agrees. 'Our product is a powerful complement to traditional learning, not a substitute. The goal is to help people gain confidence between classes.'
