Causa formal: as a result of / due to / owing to

"To express cause formally, followed by NOUN or noun phrase."

La regla

Para expresar causa de forma formal, seguidas de SUSTANTIVO o frase nominal.

Estas tres formas equivalen a 'because of' pero suenan más formales. 'Due to' y 'owing to' son casi intercambiables. 'As a result of' enfatiza el resultado/consecuencia. Todas van seguidas de SUSTANTIVO o gerundio (-ing), nunca de clausula completa con verbo conjugado. Sí necesitas conjugar un verbo, usa 'because + clausula'.

Ejemplos

Due to bad weather, the meeting was cancelled.

Debido al mal tiempo, la reunion se cancelo.

As a result of the migration, performance improved.

Como resultado de la migracion, el rendimiento mejoro.

Owing to budget cuts, we postponed the launch.

Debido a recortes de presupuesto, pospusimos el lanzamiento.

The deploy failed due to a missing environment variable.

El despliegue fallo debido a una variable de entorno faltante.

As a result of the post-mortem, we changed our process.

Como resultado del post-mortem, cambiamos nuestro proceso.

Owing to the high traffic, the server crashed.

Debido al trafico alto, el servidor se cayo.

Trampas hispanohablantes

Due to it was raining, we cancelled.Due to the rain, we cancelled. / Because it was raining, we cancelled.

'Due to' va seguido de SUSTANTIVO, no de clausula. Sí quieres clausula con verbo, usa 'because'.

As a result of, we improved.As a result of the audit, we improved.

Falta el sustantivo despues de 'as a result of'. La preposicion 'of' siempre va seguida de algo.

Owing to the meeting was long, I was tired.Owing to the long meeting, I was tired. / Because the meeting was long, I was tired.

'Owing to' + sustantivo, no clausula.

Due to leave, I missed the train.Because I had to leave, I missed the train.

'Due to leave' significa 'previsto irse', no 'porque me fui'. No confundir.
